Camberwell is a heady mix of housing having arguably the best Georgian and Regency architecture south of the River and fair smattering of post-war landfill. We’re talking about social housing, the kind that sprung up after WW2 bombs obliterated homes—a south east London trademark. Concrete Brutalist blocks exist mainly north of Camberwell Green (towards Elephant and Castle), with a sprinkling of low-rises between pretty Victorian streets towards Peckham.

Originally a large Saxon settlement, central Camberwell was popular with Georgian merchants who liked the proximity to central London and the idyllic country setting.
