Grade II listed

An elegant, GII listed Georgian home near Oval Underground. Three double bedrooms, basement kitchen/diner, double reception, two bathrooms and a heavenly garden. Conservation area, outstanding local schools, superb local transport links.

It's extraordinary how many original features have survived in this exquisite terrace. Across first-floors are ornate wrought-iron Juliet balconies and sash windows, front doors, fanlights, railings and architrave are all in good company. Falling within Camberwell New Road Conservation Area, things will stay this good-looking for the foreseeable, too.

With four storeys of living space and a kitchen/diner rooted in the basement level, this home has an ideal layout. Ceilings are high (often laced with cornicing), and windows are large with working shutters and secondary glazing where needed.

The dining area has a rare, original cast-iron stove (this would've once been the hardest-working fire in the house), alcove cupboards and a second entrance. Here you'll find under-stairs storage and a sunken patio, secretly screened from the street.
The rear kitchen has wooden units, Ghibli granite worktops, a large freestanding range (six rings, two ovens), a Belfast sink and a door to the downstairs shower room.

On the hall-floor, reception spaces interconnect using original dividing doors, while twin Georgian fireplaces have solid marble mantels and ornate, cast-iron fireboxes. Taking its traditional place across the front of the house is a lavish master bedroom with floor-to-ceiling French windows and those pretty Juliet balconies. Floorboards are stripped and there's another solid marble fireplace. Contemporary dividing doors separate this from the rear bedroom which has an original fireplace, stripped floorboards and bespoke alcove storage.

The top-floor family bathroom is larger than most, has a contemporary freestanding roll-top bath, a shower cubicle (traditional rose, thermostatic valve) and a linen/vanity cupboard. The bedroom on this floor is a roomy double with exposed floorboards, twin sash windows and alcove wardrobes. The sweetest cloakroom has been created in the eaves and has a skylight.

Facing south west, the garden has a stone terrace, is part walled and has brick raised beds brimming with tree ferns, wisteria, mature palms, a fruit-bearing fig, euphorbia, Spotty Dotty (Podophyllum) and Soloman's seal (Polygonatum).

Oval Underground is 10/12-minutes' walk for Northern Line links into town, Vauxhall is a 5-minute bus journey while Victoria is a 20-minute bus ride from here. Local primary schools include Crawford (Ofsted 'outstanding'), Comber Grove ('good') and St. John's ('good'). Older children fare well at Sacred Heart ('outstanding'), Ark All saints ('good') and St Gabriel's ('good').

Camberwell offers shops, bars and restaurants (Aside, The Sun and The Crooked Well are all excellent) or you can walk to The Kennington, a respectable local. In fine weather, you can walk to the River in under 30-minutes.
